How to manage used / unused media

Keeping your media library organized just got easier! The new Used/Unused Dropdown in the Media Library module allows you to filter media files based on their usage status. Whether you want to locate assets already used in posts or find unused files quickly, this feature provides a seamless way to manage your content efficiently. The Usage Tab lets you track where each media file has been used, ensuring better organization and transparency.

How to filter media by usage

Navigate to the Media Library module.

Locate the newly added Used/Unused Dropdown at the library's top. The media files indicates the number of posts they are used in.

  • The dropdown provides the following three options:
    • All Media:
      • Displays all library media items, including used and unused files.
    • Unused Media:
      • Filters the library to display media items not used in any post.
    • Used Media:
      • Filters the library to show media items used in at least one post.

Usage details for each media file

Each media file now includes a Usage Tab that provides detailed information about where the media is being used. This tab helps users track the posts or pages where the media has been incorporated, offering greater transparency and control over media assets.

Q1: What does the default option "All Media" display?

A: The All Media option shows all library media items, including used and unused files.

Q2: Does the media count update automatically?

A: Yes, the count and media displayed under each category update dynamically whenever:

  • A media item is used in or removed from a post.
  • A media item is deleted from the Media Library.

Q3: Can I use this dropdown to delete unused media?

A: While the dropdown helps filter unused media, deleting media must be done manually from the Media Library interface.
