OpenClaw: Set Up the ContentStudio Skill
OpenClaw is a self-hosted AI agent that can use the ContentStudio skill and CLI to manage ContentStudio workflows through a connected chat channel. Once configured, it can work with posts, media, workspaces, accounts, campaigns, labels, and team members.
Prerequisites
You need:
A machine to run OpenClaw
Node.js
A ContentStudio API key
An AI model provider key supported by OpenClaw
Optionally, a supported chat channel such as Telegram, WhatsApp, or Discord
Install the ContentStudio skill and CLI
Install and configure OpenClaw using its official installation process.
Install the ContentStudio skill:
openclaw skills install @contentstudio-official/contentstudio
Install the CLI used by the skill:
npm install -g contentstudio-cli
Configure ContentStudio authentication
Open the main API module in ContentStudio. On the API tab, create an API key and make it available in the background service process environment:
export CONTENTSTUDIO_API_KEY=cs_your_api_key_here
For local testing only, you can authenticate the CLI interactively:
contentstudio auth:login --api-key cs_your_api_key_here
Verify authentication and choose a workspace:
contentstudio auth:status
contentstudio --json workspaces:current
contentstudio --json workspaces:list
contentstudio workspaces:use <workspace_id>
Important: configure the running service, not only your shell
A shell export does not automatically reach an already-running OpenClaw service. Configure CONTENTSTUDIO_API_KEY in the actual service environment—for example, systemd Environment= or EnvironmentFile=, Docker -e, or Compose environment:—then restart the service. OpenClaw remains blocked until its process can access the required variable.
Connect a chat channel
Use OpenClaw’s supported channel setup flow. For Telegram, you create a bot, enable the Telegram plugin, add the channel with its bot token, start or restart the gateway, and approve the resulting pairing code.
Keep the bot private: enable pairing and allowlist trusted users or chat IDs. An unrestricted bot could allow untrusted users to issue ContentStudio commands.
Start safely
Begin with read-only prompts:
“Show my connected Instagram accounts.”
“List my draft posts.”
“Show the active workspace.”
Then create a draft before attempting scheduled or published content:
“Create a draft for my Facebook page: Weekend sale starts now!”
Troubleshooting
The bot does not respond: check the channel token, pairing approval, plugin state, and gateway status.
The skill reports no API key: add
CONTENTSTUDIO_API_KEYto the running service environment and restart it.No workspace is selected: list workspaces and set the intended workspace with the CLI.
Confirm the supported OpenClaw version, provider, channel configuration, and approval behavior in your own deployment before enabling write-capable workflows.
